The churches in our parish serve the community by supporting children and young people to grow healthily in community with others. We do this through Messy Church, toddlers and parent groups, the Bright Sparks Sunday School, and the Blaze Youth Group.

Children and young people’s worker, Rachel Parker

Hi. I’m Rachel Parker, the children and young people’s worker. I visit local schools and regularly organise messy church events. As the Centenary Project worker for All Saints Wath and Christ Church Brampton, I am involved every week with many local schools, leading assemblies, reading with children, and running a weekly Worship Club at Wath C of E School. 07988 569600

Messy Church

We have 60-80 people attending this style of fresh expression of church, and some families are engaging with our more formal services.

Our helpers and volunteers make this possible. However, we are always pleased to welcome people onto the team, and our Messy Church craft preparation evenings have been a great success.

People who maybe can’t help at the sessions give their time to prepare the crafts for the forthcoming Messy Church events.

Our helpers have also pioneered a Church in Schools in the form of another Messy Church at Highfield Farm Primary School. This is the first Church in School session to take place in a non-church school within the Sheffield diocese, and it was also an event that saw many parents and families engage with an after-school event, which previously had little uptake.

Lots of fun things for children to make at Messy Church

We look forward to future events for children and families, hopefully including a holiday club and growing our Youth Group.

Tiddlers and Toddlers

This group is open to everyone who meets on a Monday afternoon during term time between 1 pm and 2.30 pm in St James Rooms next to All Saints Church, Wath upon Dearne. It is run by the Wath and Brampton branch of the Mothers’ Union.

It is a chance for babies and Toddlers to play; parents, grandparents and carers to chat over a cuppa whilst keeping a watchful eye on their child. A good selection of toys and activities is available. On the fourth Monday of the month, we meet in the church as Tiddler and Toddler Praise.

Bright Sparks Sunday School

Churches have long had a tradition of Sunday schools that are usually during a church service. At Bright Sparks, children enjoy learning about the love of God and how we can live together in meaningful relationships – whilst making craft items to remind them of what they learned.

Blaze Youth Group

Youth Clubs seem to be a thing of the past, or are they? Well, here we have a regular event, which means there is a safe place for pre-teens and teenagers to go in the evening and have a good time with others of the same age.

Let’s face it. Young people are the future and worthy of investment, don’t you agree?

From the church’s point of view, this is not about controlling young people’s behaviour but about them learning healthy self-regulation through making positive choices. If you have children, surely you want them to be happy and fulfilled in what paths they choose for themselves through life?
