For five years now we’ve been driving around with a fault message on our car dash board fearing that to rectify it would cost more than the car was worth. Today I’m celebrating because a garage has carried out a simple cost effective remedy, so hopefully no more error messages, and a new lease of life for an ageing car.
Our Bible Course: A Reset
At the beginning and end of such trips to the garage, often our modern vehicles have to be plugged into a diagnostic tool to read then delete these error messages once faults have been corrected and repaired. This resetting of fault codes reminds me of the journey some of us have started through following the new ‘Bible Course’ produced by the Bible Society which is running monthly in our Parish.
“…God’s good, perfect creation begins to be spoiled and tarnished by man’s sin and rejection of God’s ways”
It has been shocking to see how even from the first book of the bible, Genesis, how quickly God’s good, perfect creation begins to be spoiled and tarnished by man’s sin and rejection of God’s ways. Eventually we see that time and again God had to intervene, yes bringing judgement but also wonderfully offering a fresh start – a reset – for creation to begin again and flourish once more.
As nature around us continues to shed its abundant green foliage of summer turning our surroundings to browns and reds, we know and trust that this is all in preparation and readiness for the eventual rest and quiet of winter but also of the reset of spring next year when new life will burst forth once again to reveal new creation, growth and energy.
Over and above these images, in the coming season of remembrance, may we be so thankful for God being willing to enter the mess and destruction so often seen in our world to give His precious Son Jesus to be the One through whom we all, and creation as a whole may one day be renewed. This is the perfect, once given, offer of a life reset for all who will come and follow the blessed Saviour of the World.
May His Peace reign in our hearts
